Holt End is a hamlet in the large civil parish of Bentworth in Hampshire, England. Its nearest town is Alton, which lies approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) north-east from the hamlet. Its nearest train station was formerly the Bentworth and Lasham railway station on the Basingstoke and Alton Light Railway, until its closure in 1932. But due to the closure of the Bentworth and Lasham railway station,[2] the nearest railway station is now 3.6 miles (5.8 km) east of the village, at Alton. The original meaning for the name 'Holt End' must have been an end of a road or a dead end. The theory is provable because even today Jennie Green Lane has a dead end to it. Holt End was once one of the crossing points between Bentworth and Ropley.[3]
The whole area between Holt End Lane and Medstead Grange lies disputed with the parish of Medstead although the hamlet is historically a part of Bentworth. Surprisingly, Medstead Grange comes under the parish of Bentworth. Medstead parish council still claims both of these territories although today the hamlet still remains in the parish of Bentworth.[4]
